2018 Speakers First Look!
More than twenty years after Forrest Pritchard determined to make his family farm financially sustainable, Smith Meadows still sells at leading farmers’ markets in Washington DC. Forrest’s 2013 book Gaining Ground, A Story of Farmers’ Markets, Local Food and Saving the Family Farm made the New York Times Bestseller list, followed by his book Growing Tomorrow, a behind-the-scenes visit with 18 sustainable farmers from across the country. Forrest’s newest book is titled Start Your Farm: The Complete Beginner’s Guide to Establishing a Successful Farm.
Neal Gottlieb launched Three Twins Ice Cream in 2005, using his life savings and a loan from The Bank of Mom and Dad. Eventually, thanks to blind ambition and 90-hour work weeks, the California-based company’s inconceivably delicious organic ice cream is sold in nearly 4,000 locations across the United States and in Japan. Three Twins still has a booth at the Berkeley Farmers’ Market where they started. A contestant on Survivor: Kaôh Rōng, the 32nd season of the iconic reality competition, Neal will share his experience about making a business not just survive, but thrive.
